The Tools for the Job

I’ve been accumulating the things that I know I will want while I travel. Since the car will be my main modus transporati, I’ve allowed myself quite a few new comforts. Here is a brief list of new acquisitions and general items:

An archtop guitar – I went with a Godin 5th Avenue.
A collection of unread literature – I stock mostly to philosophy and sociology with F.A Hayek and Hume, and supplemented with the uncollected works of J.D Salinger. There is much more than this, but this is what I’m most excited about.
Granola, cranberries, and pecans.
A medium-sized duffel of clothing.

Since I’ll also be camping and hiking as much as possible I have picked up a few accessories in the minimalist hiker category:

A good tent for two people.
A big, warm, flannely sleeping bag.
A small lantern.

I’m trying to keep any pack I strap together under 25 lbs. and I think I’ll be successful even with a 10lb sleeping bag!

Update: I’m sending the Godin back, it’s not worth it .

Owls also vomit the bits of animals they can’t digest. I’d not be so talkative either, if that were my gig.

He's Peeing

It is my desire to be in the water today. I am parting ways with GoDaddy.com. I’m going to see my family, all of it, and my friends, as many as possible, for as long as possible. I have a list of things in my life that I feel I should start doing, so I’ll start doing them.

What I’ve Learned Today

First, Kaki King is an awesome musician. Second, Elfen Lied is a really weird anime. Third, I’m not sure if I’m curious about things or if I’m just tinkering with them because of this.

There are three more days seperating me from a road trip through California. One of my stops, San Luis Obispo, has been removed due to everyone in that area being someplace else. This frees up a whole week of time which I’m not sure what to do with. Perhaps I should drive all the way up to Portland, OR or even Seattle, WA? Who knows.

I am sort of having a dilemma with Arizona right now. I could easily buy a house here and settle down for longer than I anticipated. I think I’ve always expected that Arizona was a temporary stop for me. Now, as I close in on two years here, I wonder if the transient visitor in me will strike again. I’ve never lived in one spot for more than two years, and it’s a cycle that feels somewhat comfortable.

When I think about the things that I am curious about in an effort to find resolution for this dilemma, I always come back to Rainer Maria Rilke and Letters to a Young Poet. Among the many concepts in his letters, Rilke always seems to take those things that most people lament, like loneliness, uncertainty, and suffering, and merge them with things like love, tenderness, and care in an effort to form a more complete sense of self. This appeals to me because I try to take things as they come anyway.

Maybe this trip will help me decide whether I should stay or go.

The List Project

A simple set of scripts using php and flat tables to make lists and organize them by category. The emphasis will be on a modular design and my first foray into AJAX. Due to the limitations of flat table design it will be a single user application. A possible extention may be custom columns to seperate data and the use of xor or aes encryption to secure list content.

A Religious Experience

I’ve been building new sites and deleting them for years. There really isn’t any reason for it. I mean, it isn’t like I’ve got much to say, and if I do it is definitely not important. Mostly, I think I just like to build things from time to time. And other times I like taking things apart.

I do have backups of every site I’ve ever made though. But who needs old news anyway. What am I saying? The real reason I keep shutting down my sites is because I read them later on and they make me want to vomit. But such is the way of things like this, you live, you learn, and you vomit.
